‘Total Eclipse of the Heart' Singer Bonnie Tyler Will Perform During the Solar Eclipse

The last time a solar eclipse was visible in the continental United States, in 1979, Tyler's song had not been released

The total eclipse may be eclipsed by the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer on the day of the solar event.

Bonnie Tyler, the singer of the famous pop song, will perform the 1983 hit on the Royal Caribbean's Total Eclipse Cruise.

"Bonnie Tyler was a natural choice for this once-in-a-lifetime moment," said Michael Bayley, the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.

The last time a solar eclipse was visible in the continental United States, in 1979, Tyler's song had not been released.

"It's going to be so exciting," Tyler said in an interview with Time. "It doesn't happen very often, does it?"

The cruise, Oasis of the Seas, will depart from Orlando, Fla. on Aug 20., and will head to the Caribbean, according to Time. The group DNCE, led by Joe Jonas, will perform along with Tyler.

The ship will be in the "path of totality," meaning that the eclipse will be fully visible to cruise-goers.

In anticipation for the solar event, the views of the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" Youtube video have increased — now at over 300 million.

"The eclipse of the sun lasts 2 minutes and 40 (seconds), I'm told," Tyler said in the interview. "Unlike my song. It had to be chopped about, because it was so long. I never thought it would be played on the radio, in the beginning."
