Two beaches on Cape Cod were closed to swimmers after a shark was seen attacking a seal, according to authorities.

Chatham Police said Lighthouse Beach and Andrew Hardings Beach are closed. The Chatham Harbormaster is on scene and monitoring.

Department of Marine Fisheries Scientist Greg Skomal was using his GoPro to track white sharks off Cape Cod when the shark approached his camera.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy confirmed that the great white shark bit the seal around 3:15 p.m. The conservancy added that the shark, one of nine great whites spotted off the Cape on Thursday, had been spotted inside the harbor near Lighthouse Beach.

The conservancy shared the following photo of the attacked seal:

Dan Tobin, Chatham's parks and recreation director, told the Boston Globe that the beaches would likely remain closed for about two hours.

No further information was immediately available.
