Police say socks and a hair tie found on the body of a Google employee slain while out for a run near her mother's Massachusetts home tested positive for gasoline, and the man charged with killing her bought $5 worth of gas on the day of her death.
The police affidavit in the death of 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte was filed in a Massachusetts court.
The New York resident was found murdered a half mile from her mother's Princeton home on Aug. 7, 2016.
Her body was found in a remote, wooded area a half-mile away later that evening. Police said her body was naked and partially burned. There were also signs that she had struggled with her attacker.
State police detectives and local police previously said they received more than 1,300 tips in the case.
Worcester resident Angelo Colon-Ortiz, 31, was charged with murder, aggravated assault and battery and assault with attempt to rape in connection with her death.

Prosecutors said Colon-Ortiz had worked as a third party contractor delivering FedEx packages in the area. Phone records show he was close by the crime scene at the time of Marcotte's death. He was arrested after a cheek swab taken in March matched DNA found underneath Marcotte's fingernails.
Colon-Ortiz is being held on $10 million bail. He has pleaded not guilty.
He is due back in court on Oct. 5.
