Chance of Localized Urban Flooding With Weekend Storm

A weak cold front is pushing off Friday morning, taking any clouds with it. High pressure is now moving in from Canada with comfortably cool late February air. Under mostly sunny skies, the high temperature today in the 30s north and low 40s south.

Another huge winter storm that brought snow to Las Vegas again Thursday, is intensifying over the Rockies. Flagstaff, Arizona had 3 feet of snow Thursday -- one of the snowiest storms on record there.

In addition, the cold front stalled south of us is bringing more heavy rain to the southeastern United States. Those two weather systems are going to combine to bring clouds in here Saturday, and a wintry mix well after dark Saturday night.

But it is a nice looking Saturday first, with fading sunshine, similar to Friday, high temperatures near 40 degrees.

Northern New England is under a First Alert for snow and a wintry mix that will likely impact travel for residents as they head to or from the mountains around school vacation week.

Some areas may receive 6 inches of snow or even more!

Precipitation arrives before sunrise on Sunday. Most of us will get a brief period of snow to sleet, with a very quick transition to rain in Connecticut, Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.

From northern Massachusetts through eastern Vermont, and most of New Hampshire and Maine, we have several hours of snow and sleet. It is a difficult travel day to go to or from the ski resorts.

Warmer air takes over for most of us with the rain becoming heavy and a chance of a thunderstorm. Perhaps some localized urban flooding, with the melting snow and frozen ground.

High temperature near 50 degrees toward the south coast, 40s inland, 30s north and east.

A dramatic cold front will swoop across New England Sunday night, with the rain ending as snow in the mountains and hills.

A storm with the power of a hurricane traverses north of Maine late Sunday night and Monday. For New England, that means much colder air with a mixture of sun and clouds on Monday. Some snow is possible in the mountains, but the wind is a major factor. From the northwest, we may see gusts past 60 mph.

Temperatures top out in the low 30s, but falling during the afternoon. Needless to say, the windchill factor will be much lower.

The wind should let up on Tuesday with high-pressure briefly coming overhead. High temperature near freezing.

Another weather front stalls near New England for the remainder of the week. With waves of low pressure coming along. Anyone of those waves of low pressure can turn into a serious storm.

It’s still a low confidence forecast but it looks like it least some snow is possible Tuesday night and Wednesday. And then again on, or before the weekend. It looks like March is going to come in like a roaring cold lion. Stay ahead of the weather with our First Alert 10-Day forecast.
