Water Main Break Causes Street to Flood, Homes to be Evacuated

Part of a neighborhood in Stoneham, Massachusetts was evacuated Saturday morning after a water main break caused a street to flood.

The water main break was reported at about 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of North and George streets.

Fire officials said two homes had to be evacuated.

Water flowed for hours in the area and roads closed while crews work to repair the break. A man hole has been opened to drain some of the water from the flooded street.

In Chelsea, a water main break was reported around the same time on Route 16 westbound at Webster Avenue. The right lane was closed for a couple of hours while crews repaired that break.
