Visitors to Everett's Fermentation District – comprising Night Shift Brewing, Bone Up Brewing Co. and Short Path Distillery – just got another reason to stick around for a while longer: As of Friday, May 5, there will be more space to enjoy a drink with friends al fresco.

Short Path Distillery is opening a 60-by-32-foot patio space that's connected to its current tasting room. To commemorate the event, empanadas will be served from 6-10 p.m. and local bluegrass band Sick, Sad, and Lonesome will be providing entertainment into the night.

"We have been planning on adding a patio to our tasting room experience since day one of opening the distillery," founder Zachary Robinson told me. "There is nothing more relaxing than hanging outside on a hot summer day with a refreshing gin and tonic."

Speaking of gin, the brand will be launching its Spring Gin, a light citrusy, floral gin with lemon peel and jasmine flowers, to coincide with the opening of the patio, which will feature games like cornhole and bocce and be open year-round thanks to a tent and space heaters.

"Over the course of two years, Short Path Distillery has grown enough to take over the entire building of 71 Kelvin Street. In August 2016 we added 2,000 additional square feet of production space and in February 2017 we picked up another 1,700 square feet of warehouse space and the 1,600 square foot yard that came with it," Robinson continued. "The yard was previously used as storage and was neglected for several years. It required a lot of cleaning and construction to get the space up to snuff. It’s really a dream come true."

If you head to Short Path for the opening weekend of its new patio, be sure to check out Springfest at neighboring Night Shift, a curated evening of local beer and local music going down Saturday, May 6.
