Executive Director Named For Mass. Marijuana Commission

The first executive director of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission has been named.

CCC board members announced Thursday that assistant treasurer Shawn Collins has been named to lead the agency that will oversee the regulated marijuana sales in the state.

Collins, who has previously worked as the chief of staff for state Sen. Richard Moore and served as a chairman for the Webster school committee, has been a point person for the last two years on the legalization of the drug for state treasurer Deborah Goldberg.

Kay Doyle, a member of the Cannabis Control Commission, said Collins “really does get some of the nuanced issues (on the subject) and could hit the ground running.”

In 2016, Massachusetts voters chose to legalize marijuana in the state. Currently in a legal gray area, statewide marijuana sales are expected to be legal next year.
