Is Elizabeth Warren Looking Ahead to 2020 With Committee Switch?

Elizabeth Warren has made a name for herself as the queen of consumer protection, unafraid to take on the nation's biggest banks.

But the U.S. senator will now be broadening her knowledge and influence on issues concerning the military, foreign policy and defense, prompting some to wonder if she's doing so with an eye toward 2020.

Warren is moving on from the Energy Committee and focusing on armed services.

"I will still be out there fighting on environmental issues and modernizing our energy infrastructure," she said. "The Armed Services Committee is a place where a lot of really important decisions get made about protecting our military and making sure we have true readiness."

The senator denied that the move was directly related to a potential presidential campaign.

"I don't think much about it. What I think about is the job that's right in front of me," she said. "For me, this is really about a series of issues I've worked on and being able to expand it into a new area."

Still, Warren has never hesitated to criticize the president-elect, and Thursday was no exception.

"Donald Trump is starting to assemble his team," she said. "Some of his nominees are deeply disturbing. And I think we really need to bear down on this."
