Thanks to heavy April Fools rain and snow, our vernal pools are brimming, and in some cases running over with possible minor flooding from Tuesday rainfall.

And it's not just rain. Parts of northern New Hampshire and much of central and northern Maine are getting another several inches of snow from this slow-moving weather system.

Primary low pressure moves into upstate New York, with a warm front over Long Island, and a redeveloping low-pressure system set to pass over Nantucket overnight.

Overall, a raw and chilly day with highs reaching into the mid 40s south and low 40s north. Heavy rain wanes to scattered rain showers south with snow showers diminishing across the north by this evening.

Lows will be in the low 30s north and mid 30s south. A weak area of high pressure slides down from New Brunswick, Canada, on Wednesday. This will allow skies to clear and some sunshine to peak through throughout the day. Highs will range from the upper 40s to near 50 degrees south and mid 40s north.

Rain will move back in across the region on Thursday as developing low pressure system ushers in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Additional flooding risks will coincide with heavy rain. Highs will reach into the upper 40s across New England.

A warm front will move across the area on Friday, resulting in high temperatures reaching into the low 50s south and upper 40s north. Winds will pick up throughout the day. Expecting a mostly dry day with clouds around. A few scattered rain showers may fall across the North Country.

Rainfall amounts from each system, of 1 to 2 inches, combine that with what happened over the weekend, and that equals more than a months’ worth of rain for much of New England.

Our drought is pretty much history. As a matter fact, with such a deep snow cover, spring flooding could become more serious moving forward.

The extended forecast is for slow drying Friday, with a mix of sun and clouds for this weekend.

The Susan G. Komen race for a cure in Boston should be comfortable on Saturday, with partly sunny skies and a high in the 50s.

High pressure moves in behind the departing storm system on Sunday, bringing drier and milder weather to New England. Temperatures will reach into the 50s. More details are on the exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-Day Forecast on NBC Boston and necn.
