Lonzo Ball Won't Hold Workout With Celtics: Ainge

The Celtics own the number one pick in the draft courtesy of a 2013 trade with Brooklyn Nets

Top NBA draft prospect Lonzo Ball will not work out for the Boston Celtics.

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge told 98.5 The Sports Hub on Thursday that Ball’s camp had “politely declined” an invite to work out for the team ahead of the June 22 draft.

The Celtics own the number one pick in the draft courtesy of a 2013 trade with Brooklyn Nets.

Ball, who played for UCLA, is projected to be one of the top two picks in the draft. Ball’s father, Lavar Ball, has indicated his son will only work out for the Los Angeles Lakers, who own the number two pick.

Ainge said in the past, the team has drafted players who did not work out for them.

“I mean it’s not the end of the world,” he said. “We’ve watched them play a ton. We have a lot of information on them.”

Many experts project Markelle Fultz of the University of Washington to be the first overall pick.
