Man, 78, Killed After Truck Collides With Commuter Rail Train in Abington

A man was killed Tuesday night after the pickup truck he was driving in collided with an MBTA commuter rail train in Abington, Massachusetts, according to Transit Police.

The incident happened at about 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Railroad Street and North Avenue.

MBTA Superintendent Richard Sullivan said the 78-year-old pickup truck driver was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.

There were 10 passengers on board the train at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

Service on the commuter rail line was stopped between the Abington and South Weymouth stations while the scene was cleared.

Transit Police and the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office are handling the investigation but foul play was not suspected.
