Boston bicyclists are taking a cue from one of the city's most visited public sculptures to push for safer streets.
On Sunday, bicyclists rode laps around the Public Garden to call attention to one of the more dangerous biking areas in downtown Boston.
The ride, named Make Way for Bike Lanes, is inspired by the book by Robert McCloskey about a family of ducklings struggling to cross the busy roads surrounding the neighboring Boston Garden.
The Public Garden sports an installation of duck-sized bronze statues.
The group said the roads around the Public Garden have wide travel lanes, letting drivers zip around at unsafe speeds.
They said Beacon Street has been the site of a number of crashes. The group wants the city to install protected bike lanes.
