Malia Obama Spotted at Harvard for Move-In

Former first daughter Malia Obama has been spotted in Cambridge a week before she is set to begin her freshman year at Harvard University.

Obama, 19, took a gap year that involved extensive travel, work, and an internship. Harvard University’s Move-in Days begin Tuesday, and classes begin Aug. 30.

Cell phone video captured her walking near Harvard Square. Her father, former President Barack Obama, was also seen dining at Harvest restaurant in Cambridge on Monday, according to the Boston Globe.

Barack Obama is a 1983 graduate of Columbia. Michelle Obama graduated from Princeton in 1985. Both went on to earn their law degrees at Harvard.

Malia Obama visited at least a dozen public and private colleges during her search before settling on Harvard.

Michelle Obama had said that her eldest daughter wanted to be a filmmaker, and many thought she would enroll at NYU's respected Tisch School of the Arts, which counts directors Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee among its alumni.

Earlier this month, the Obama family spent their annual summer vacation at Martha's Vineyard for the first time as private citizens.
