Man Accused of Killing Young Mother Ordered Held Without Bail

Jason Fleury is charge with murder in the death of Jaimee Mendez

A man who acknowledged being with a Boston-area woman, just before she disappeared in November 2014, has been charged with murder and ordered held without bail.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jason Fleury of East Lynn was arrested Wednesday in Hampton, Virginia, and agreed to return to Massachusetts.

He was arraigned Thursday in Salem, where he entered a not guilty plea.

Fleury is charged with killing 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez of Swampscott, the single mother of a young son.

Her family reported her missing Nov. 8, saying they hadn't seen her since she called a friend Nov. 6 to pick her up.

Her remains were found Jan. 28 on King's Beach in Swampscott.

Fleury told the Daily Item of Lynn in an interview last year he was with Mendez to buy drugs the night she disappeared, but did not kill her.

A bail hearing has been set for Sept. 21.
