Neighborhood Stunned After Pit Bulls Kill 7-Year-Old in Lowell, Massachusetts

A neighborhood is stunned after a 7-year-old boy was attacked and killed by two pit bulls in Lowell, Massachusetts.

It happened Saturday evening inside a fenced-in yard on Clare Street. Investigators say the 7-year-old boy entered the fenced-in area and was then attacked by the pit bulls.

Now, there's a memorial near the scene as people try to figure out what happened, and candles and balloons mark the spot where the 7-year-old boy lost his life.

Angel Argueta witnessed the attack and said, "it's sad, man. It's just tragic, so unfortunately this happened. I seen the mom earlier and she was in shock you know, trying to wake up from this nightmare."

"There's nothing really we could do," said David Swiniarski, who also witnessed the attack. "Two 100, 120-pound pit bulls just getting his neck, his legs. It was actually horrific to watch."

One dog escaped the fence after the attack but was later caught and euthanized.

The other dog is with animal control.

One neighbor says the dogs were never vicious to him.

"I think they are very, very mellow dogs. Very nice dogs," said Roger Rodriguez. "I used to play with them. Even the cat in the house used to play with the dogs."

Others avoided the animals.

Kendra Rivera, a classmate of the 7-year-old boy, said, "We would always get scared of the dogs so we would always come on the other side of the road."

An investigation is underway, but no charges have been filed at this time.
