Police Arrest Suspects in Taunton. Mass. Liquor Store Shooting

Police have arrested two suspects who they say shot the female owner of a liquor store in Taunton, Massachusetts, Wednesday night during an attempted robbery.

The suspects, 18-year-old Billy Morris and a 17-year-old male, were arrested Thursday morning, according to police.

Police say the shooting happened at about 8:35 p.m. at Eagan’s Package Store on Cohannett Street.

Police said surveillance video captured two men attempting to rob the store, with one of them wielding a rifle.

The owner refused to hand over any money and grabbed the barrel of the gun.

The suspect then fired and the owner was wounded in her left side. She has been hospitalized for serious injuries and is currently in stable condition.

Police said the two suspects fled the store empty-handed on foot.

The teenage suspects are schedule to appear in court on Thursday.

Thursday, dozens of customers stopped by, leaving flowers and notes on two poster boards outside the business.

"I feel bad for her. She is a good lady," Steve Sanchez said. "I get choked up just thinking about her, she is really nice."

"Great lady, generous and funny, and she would give anybody in this neighborhood anything if they wanted it," added Jim O'Toole. "I hope they hang those guys by their thumbs."

Customers say the victim always greeted them with a smile.

"Even if you were having the worst day ... she would always go, 'beautiful sister, you look so beautiful today,'" recalled Mary Christofaro.
