Driver Faces 4th OUI Charge in Crash That Injured Trooper

A man is being charged with his fourth OUI after Massachusetts State Police say he crashed into a cruiser while drunk, injuring a trooper.

Around 8 p.m., when the trooper was setting up for road construction detail on I-495 southbound, a driver crashed into his vehicle.

The driver, 59-year-old Joseph Doiron of North Andover, will face OUI charges — his fourth such offense, according to police.

The trooper was taken to Holy Family Hospital with minor injuries.

Doiron was taken to Lawrence General Hospital before being arrested.

In addition to OUI, Doiron is charged with driving with an open container, driving to endanger, failure to stay in marked lanes and speeding.

It was not immediately clear if Doiron had an attorney. He will be arraigned in Lawrence District Court at a later date.

The southbound side of the highway was closed for a short time, but has since reopened.
