The tornado that touched down in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts on Tuesday had social media users wondering how often such an occurrence happens on Cape Cod.
The tornado, confirmed by the National Weather Service, wreaked havoc, tearing the roof off on motel, ripping trees out of the ground and causing other damage.
While very rare, Tuesday's twister was not the first to hit the Cape.
F1 tornadoes were confirmed to have hit Marston Mills on August 9, 1968; and West Yarmouth on August 22, 1977. A tornado was confirmed to have hit Woods Hole on October 29 of last year.
NWS crews were expected to arrive in South Yarmouth Tuesday to assess damage.
