16 days in a row without 80°+ in Boston. That number will climb to 23 by the end of this cool stretch. May ended up being 1.5° below average (even with the heat wave).
So far, June is starting off 0.2° below average, but that will change significantly. Record low maximum temperatures are in jeopardy on Tuesday. The record low high temperature for the day is 52°, set back in 1929. That’s what we are forecast for a high temperature.
You might be thinking, this is a miserable start to June. Trust me, I know it’s not great, but it won’t be as bad as 2015! The first two days of the month stayed in the 40s, followed by three days spent in the 50s. How did the rest of that summer turn out? June was below average, July was average and August was hot. Does it mean we will see a repeat of 2015? No. But the moral of the story is: don’t write off the summer.
Not only will it be cool, it will be rainy. We are expected to see on and off rain through Wednesday. There may be some heavier elements of rain, but most of it will be light to moderate. When you add it all up we can expect to see 1-3” of rain for most of New England. Rivers are not at risk of flooding, but they will be high and running fast – use caution if you’re canoeing or kayaking.
Winds could be strong along the coast. Since a lot of people have their boats back in the water, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday should be left to the experts. Gusts may reach 40 MPH for coastal communities and seas may rise to 15 feet.
Ok, now the part you have ALL been waiting for – when do we warm up?! Soon! It looks like we see another nice warm up by next weekend. The sunshine returns late week, we start warming up by the weekend and then we could turn HOT the following week. It’s still too early to say if it’s going to stick around, but enjoy it while it lasts.
