Increasing clouds, chance sprinkle. Highs in the 50s.

    (Published Monday, May 8, 2017)

A weak area of low pressure centered over northern Maine brought snow to the mountains of central New Hampshire and western Maine this morning. A cool day is on tap with a blend of sun and clouds for the start of the work week.

An early may sun angle and cool temperatures aloft will result in building clouds as the day progresses. West winds may gust to 20 to 25 mph. Highs temperatures will only reach into the mid 50s across the south and mid 40s north.

If you are a seasonal allergy sufferer, be prepared for high pollen counts today with birch, maple and oak being in spring bloom. With breaks in the clouds, lows plummet into the 30s overnight across most of New England.

Some frost may form in colder areas. Expecting low 40s across the south coast. Mostly cloudy skies and rain showers are around again for Tuesday as an upper-level area of low pressure continues to spin overhead.

Highs will be similar to today in the mid to upper 40s north and the mid to upper 50s across the south. Moving into the middle of the week, persistence remains king with stalled upper-level low rotating over New England. Wednesday will feature continued clouds and showers during the day. Sea breezes may develop on Wednesday given relatively light winds over land.

A near carbon copy expected on Thursday with more clouds and showers around. High pressure builds out of Canada builds into New England on Friday, resulting in improving conditions with lowering chance of showers and slightly warmer temperatures near 60 degrees south and upper 50s north.

Partly cloudy skies expected on Saturday before an area of low pressure located offshore of the Carolinas approaches the region. Highs move back into the seasonable range in the 60s. Clouds and showers move back in on Mother’s Day with low pressure located east of the Delmarva Peninsula.
