Mostly cloudy, few showers. Highs in the 70s.

Saturday night: Slow clearing, showers fade. Lows in the 60s to near 70.

    (Published Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017)

After a soggy start to our Saturday for most of southern New England, these showers will finally pull off the coastline by midday. However, since we started off mostly dry and mostly cloudy in northern New England, there is that possibility for some strong to severe storms that pop-up from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. in the North Country of Vermont, northern New Hampshire and into the Berkshires, and even the northwestern corner of Connecticut.

So, if you have afternoon outdoor plans in any of those locations, keep your eyes to the skies and make sure to have a plan if you need to seek shelter indoors, away from these storms. The main threats with these storms will be damaging wind gusts, large hail, and flash flooding.

As far as the rest of the area today, a lingering shower or two cannot be ruled out through this afternoon, but it’s likely the clouds do stick around for most, with highs into the 70s south, near 70 north with a southeasterly wind at 5-15 miles per hour.

Overnight, temperatures will slip into the mid to upper 60s under partly to mostly cloudy skies as a cold front crosses the region tonight into tomorrow, meaning a humid Sunday morning turns noticeably more comfortable by late day with a fair sky, save for some far North Country showers, and highs in the 80s for many, 70s North Country. If anything, Sunday will be a big improvement compared to the first half of the weekend. Definitely the pick of the weekend for the Cape and the Islands.

Right now, next week is looking really good, especially if you chose that for your vacation week! There’s just an elevated chance of some showers Tuesday and Saturday, but even those chances are fairly brief and limited with an extended stretch of high temperatures 75-80 degrees showing up in the exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.

If you are interested in trying to see the Perseid Meteor Shower that is expected to peak this weekend, the best night to do so would be Sunday night as the clouds exit.
