Warmth and humidity remains in place across New England today, but with a stronger upper level disturbance crossing the region, many more thunderstorms are expected than the isolated storms of recent days.

In fact, by middle to late afternoon, many communities in Central and Southern New England should hear rumbles of thunder.

Though some isolated damaging wind gusts are possible, the more widespread impact will probably be lightning and heavy rain – so keep an eye to the western sky during the middle afternoon through evening and be ready to seek shelter if storms threaten.

Areas of rain and thunder will subside overnight tonight, though pockets of fog will develop in lingering moist air, leading us into another humid day Thursday.

The difference Thursday is the afternoon energetic impulse aloft won’t be quite as strong, so storms will remain more scattered in nature, though high temperatures will climb back into the 80s.

This weather pattern continues through Friday and Saturday, with more periodic showers and thunder likely, particularly in the afternoons, and highs in the 80s both days.

Saturday’s storms will gather along a cold front crossing the region, leaving drier air for great weather on Sunday.

Some showers or rain seem likely late Monday through Monday night, but much of next week looks good in our exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast, albeit a bit cooler than this week.
