Partly cloudy. Highs around 40. (Published Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016)

Sunday sunshine across much of New England will give way to some areas of light snow on Monday, including during the morning commute.

The snow will break out from west to east during the first half of the morning commute in parts of Vermont, Connecticut, and in Central and Western Massachusetts.

This is a very weak system coming through, and the precipitation will generally be light. Having said that, a few pockets of moderate snow will develop in the Connecticut Hills, parts of Vermont, and areas in Massachusetts around the Worcester Hills and points west. In those areas there may be some minor delays during the morning commute with slick spots developing.

Light snow showers will then spread through Eastern Massachusetts, along with parts of New Hampshire and Rhode Island during the second half of the commute.

Deeper through the morning, say after 9 a.m., snow will reach through the rest of New Hampshire and into parts of Maine. Meanwhile, enough warm air will work into the coastal plain to switch things over to plain rain showers, or at least a mix of rain and snow.

That rain and mix will slowly work northward during the rest of the afternoon.

When it’s all said and done most areas away from the coast will see a dusting-2” of snow, with the highest odds of an inch or two in the Worcester Hills points north and west.

Another batch of light rain and snow showers will clip parts of New England on Wednesday.
