This rain may be the last in line, but it's going out with a bang.
Literally.
Thunderstorms may form overnight in Southern New England as unseasonably warm air is forced to rise by a warm front. While most of us see near an inch of water, some spots could close in on 2 or more if thunderstorms form. Best chance remains across the Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Mass. coasts after midnight into the wee hours of the morning.
What's more likely is the spike in temperatures. We're certain that parts of Southern New England will rise to near 60 (wait, isn't tomorrow December 1st??) by morning as the mild air flows in on a south wind. That wind abruptly turns west and levels us off in the mid and upper 50s for the afternoon. And with that, our little foray into the mild air will end.
A cool front on Friday will ensure that. Steady winds from the northwest will carry seasonable air and sunshine into New England for the weekend. Pats game looks chilly with temps in the upper 30s wind chills in the upper 20s.
Long range, the cool air looks like it may not hold. Another storm is brewing by midweek that could heave out the cold and bring back the mild air. It too comes with a standing threat for rain. We'll welcome it like we did these last rain events: with open arms.
