Cory Smith

Cory Smith is an award-winning anchor and reporter who joined NBC10 Boston and NECN in June of 2022.

Before moving to Boston, Cory spent several years reporting and anchoring at WRC, the NBC-owned station in Washington, D.C., where he covered a host of history-making events in the nation’s capital.

His live reporting during the George Floyd protests in 2020 and the Jan. 6 insurrection earned multiple Emmy Awards.

After getting his start in Lawrence, Kansas, Cory spent much of his early career in Texas.

He spent three years at KSAT-TV in San Antonio before moving to his hometown of Dallas in 2015, where he was an anchor and reporter for NBC-owned KXAS-TV.

He covered several high-profile stories that gained national attention.

When a lone gunman ambushed and killed five Dallas police officers, Cory was one of the first reporters to break the story and broadcasted the gunfire live on social media.

He received a national Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy for his coverage.

The proudest moment in his career was covering Dallas’ southern sector, an area that has long been ignored by local leaders. His work helped secure millions of dollars in funding for public schools and brought wider attention to the issue of food insecurity in some of the city’s poorest neighborhoods.

Cory graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

He lives in Boston with his wife, Kate, and their dog and cat, Ceres and Iggy.

He’s excited to eat his way through the New England region and cherishes the opportunity to live and work in a sports-crazed city.
