HBO ‘Insecure' Creator Responds to Criticisms of Sex Scene

There was no mention of condom use or any form of contraception in an explicit scene featured in the Sunday episode of "Insecure," leading to outcry on Twitter

HBO's "Insecure" came under fire after its Sunday episode that fans claim fails to promote safe sex.

The fourth episode of season 2 features Lawrence, played by Jay Ellis, having an impromptu threesome with two women. But there was no mention of condom use or any form of contraception in the explicit scene, leading to outcry on Twitter.

"Are we ever going to see a condom on #InsecureHBO?" Charlamagne the God, a Power 105.1 host, wrote.

Creator, co-writer and star of "Insecure," Issa Rae, responded to the controversy acknowledging the concerns of fans.

"We tend to place condoms in the backgrounds of scenes or imply them," Rae wrote on Twitter. "But we hear you guys and will do better next season."
