‘Clueless' Actress Stacey Dash Withdraws California Congressional Bid

The actress-turned-conservative political commentator had filed paperwork to run for a congressional seat in Southern California

"Clueless" star Stacey Dash, who announced last month she was making a bid for Congress, has withdrawn from the California congressional race in a statement to Cosmopolitan magazine.

"My goal was, and remains, to improve the lives of people who have been forgotten for decades by the Democratic Party," Dash wrote. "At this point, I believe that the overall bitterness surrounding our political process, participating in the rigors of campaigning, and holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of my family."

The actress-turned-conservative political commentator had filed paperwork to run for a congressional seat in Southern California. Documents submitted to the Federal Election Commission show she intended to run as a Republican in California's 44th District, a seat held by Democrat Nanette Barragan.

Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by a wide margin in the Los Angeles-area district that contains the areas of Compton, Watts, San Pedro and North Long Beach.

"The people living here deserve better," Dash wrote in her statement. "I will continue to speak out about these and other problems facing this district, as well as the distractions that take the place of real change."
