The Discovery Channel reality series "Storm Chasers'" star Joel Taylor is dead at the age of 38, according to friends on social media.
According to his reality series co-star Reed Timmer, the cause of death has not been determined. Taylor served as meteorologist and driver for team's storm vehicle the Dominator.
Taylor was born in Elk City, Oklahoma. He went on to study meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, where he met his future co-star Timmer.
His co-star Reed Timmer, who currently works with Accueather as meteorologist, announced the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
"RIP my best friend and storm chasing partner, Joel Taylor," Timmer wrote. "I am shocked and absolutely devastated by the loss of my incredible, caring friend. We chased so many intense storms, and I wish we could have just one more storm chase. I'll miss you forever, Joel. We lost a legend."
The two documented their journey through Tornado Alley during the 2003 storm season for the documentary Tornado Glory. In 2007, Taylor and Timmer became stars on the hit Discovery Channel series Storm Chasers.
The show was canceled after five seasons in January 2012. Discovery Channel also confirmed the death of Taylor on Twitter, "We are so saddened to hear about Joel’s passing. We will always remember him fondly as an incredible meteorologist and driver of “The Dominator," they tweeted.
