See ‘Once' in Boston

The musical "Once" has returned to Boston, now playing at the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre.

The show tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant who connect through music over the course of a week. It won Best Musical at the Tony Awards in 2012 and a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. The unconventional show features a cast of actor-musicians who play on stage without a pit orchestra.

Boston is the last leg of the "Once" tour, a bittersweet end for lead actor Stuart Ward.

"We've done this show for 2-and-a-half years now on tour," said Ward. "The bulk of the cast is still the same. We're more a family than a cast. We travel together, we live together, we play together, we play music outside the show together, we record albums together. It's going to be a very emotional ending on the 27th when we play our last show."

"Once" runs through Dec. 27 at the Shubert. If you get there early, you can catch the pre-show jam session with musical acts and a chance for the audience to come on stage. For ticket information, click here.
