These trolleys, which ran the Mattapan-Ashmont line, were due to get state-of-the-art upgrades that are years behind schedule. For now, they are sitting in a warehouse in Everett. The 1940s-era electric trolleys need extensive lead paint removal, an MBTA spokesman said, but a state lawmaker questioned whether that was really the reason for the delay.
