Family of Boston Marathon Bombing Victim Martin Richard Honored

The parents of the youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombings were honored Wednesday night.

Martin Richard was just 8 when his life was taken in the 2013 terrorist attack near the marathon finish line. To that horrific violence, his parents, Bill and Denise, responded with peace.

Before the marathon bombings changed their lives forever, Bill Richard says Denise would take Martin and his siblings, Henry and Jane, to the annual Mother's Day Walk for Peace.

That walk is held in the memory of Louis D. Brown, a young homicide victim whose 1993 death spawned the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. That organization paid tribute to the Richard family Wednesday.

"Wise beyond their years and more famous in death than in life," Bill Richard said of his son and Brown. "A cruel irony was in fact their activism and their messaging -- a bond they shared never having known each other."
