Melody Mendez joined NBC 10 Boston and necn in the Spring of 2016.

She comes to Boston after anchoring the morning show at WFLD in Chicago.

Her career as an award-winning anchor and reporter has taken her to cities across the country over the last decade, from Jackson, Tennessee to Champaign, Illinois and Seattle, Washington, to Denver, Colorado and most recently, Chicago. She has covered major stories across the country, like Hurricane Katrina and the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting.

With this move, Melody is fulfilling a lifelong dream of returning home to New England.

Travel is nothing new to the daughter of an Air Force Pilot (and Air Force Academy grad). Melody has traveled the globe, but her favorite trips are always to visit her family in Lima, Peru. Her mother is a Spanish teacher in New Hampshire and still lives near the home where Melody grew up in Bedford, New Hampshire.

Melody is a classically trained singer who loves to travel, read, ski (water and snow) and spend time on the water. She lives in the Newton area with her fiancé and rescue dog, Ike.

She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Society of Professional Journalists and an active volunteer with several organizations including the American Cancer Society and Special Olympics.
