Together with Charles, Princess Diana had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She took a highly-involved role in raising the children, breaking many royal traditions and ruffling feathers in the British court.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles went through an embarrassing split in 1994 when news of his adulterous affairs with the Duchess of Cornwall became public. On the same day Prince Charles went on television to admit the affair, Princess Diana stepped out in this stunning specially-commissioned black dress.
Following her break with Charles, she told the BBC that she knew she would never become the Queen in title, but she said, "I'd like to become a queen in people's hearts."
Diana began to see the millionaire businessman Dodi Fayed, and tabloids soon began snapping pics of the two aboard yachts in the Mediterranean.
On Aug. 31, 1997, Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed were on the run from paparazzi in Paris. Their driver, in an effort to shake the photographers, was speeding and crashed in a tunnel. Dodi died on the scene, while Diana died several hours later in the hospital.
