Plans by a recreational marijuana dispensary to open in Hudson, Massachusetts, have not yet been authorized by town officials.

Authorities there said Wednesday that Temescal Wellness hasn't submitted and received approval of its traffic mitigation plan.

The state's Cannabis Control Commission announced on Tuesday that the dispensary could start recreational marijuana sales as early as Saturday, but Hudson police said they needed to approve the company's traffic plan first.

"We want to ensure that Temescal Wellness has a strong plan in place to ensure that traffic impact is minimized and that public safety is guaranteed upon its opening," said Hudson Police Chief Michael Burks. "We are committed to working with the business to ensure they have as smooth an opening as possible, but will not rush the opening at the expense of the public's best interest."

The state opened the first two fully-licensed marijuana retail shops in November in Northampton and Leicester. There are now four other shops opened, with a seventh in Great Barrington expected to open Friday.
