The state reported 18 new cases of COVID-19, bringing its total to 124

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo on Tuesday announced measures to provide child care to parents amid the coronavirus crisis, as number of COVID-19 cases in the state continued to climb.

Raimondo said the state was partnering with a company called Care.com to provide free access to the website for 90 days to help parents access child care and elder care. A special section has been created for residents on Care.com here.

The move aims to help those on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19, including health care workers, grocery store employees and law enforcement officers, Raimondo said.

The governor also announced child care centers would be allowed to stay open if they follow strict guidelines issued by the state. She said "surprise visits" may be made to enforce the guidelines.

Meanwhile, Raimondo announced 18 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Rhode Island, bringing the state's total to 124. No deaths have been reported in the state.

Raimondo also said the state's presidential primary, which was postponed from  April 28 primary to June 2 would be a "primarily mail ballot election."

On Monday , the governor said beginning this week, all passengers returning to T.F. Green Airport must self-quarantine for 14 days.

Raimondo has previously ordered all gyms, salons, theaters, bowling alleys and other entertainment venues to close as the state works to prevent spread of the coronavirus.
