One person was killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision on Route 56 in Leicester, Massachusetts.

The crash happened at 6:55 a.m. in the vicinity of King Street.

A 2008 Nissan, driven by 51-year-old Todd Williams of Webster, went off the roadway as a result of the crash and partially rolled over.

Williams had to be extracted from his vehicle. He was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A second person, who was driving a 1993 Cadillac, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center.

Fifty-one-year-old Anthony Vickers, of Rochdale, has been identified as the driver of the second vehicle.

The Life Flight helicopter from UMass Memorial Medical Center responded to the scene, and the crew worked alongside with Leicester emergency crews.

Route 56 was closed following the accident, and police advised drivers to seek an alternate route. It was opened back up around 11 a.m.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time, and the Leicester Police Chief said it is too early in the investigation to make any statements regarding the cause.

The crash is under investigation by the Leicester police department and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council's Accident Reconstruction Team in consultation with the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.
