1 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash Overnight on I-495 in Westford, Massachusetts

One person is dead after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 495 in Westford, Massachusetts overnight.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Massachusetts State Police said they received multiple calls about a white Nissan SUV traveling the wrong-way, driving north in the southbound lane of I-495 in Westford near exit 31. Minutes later, they received calls reporting a serious crash in the same general area.

Arriving troopers located the crash scene on I-495 south, near exit 32 in Westford.

State police said their preliminary investigation shows that a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 45-year-old Westford woman, was traveling north on I-495 in the southbound lane when it struck a 2017 Honda Civic head-on.

The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Raming Medina Cabreja of Worcester, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the other vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. No update on her condition was available.

Southbound lanes on I-495 were closed for over two hours while the accident scene was cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by state police.
