With Boston amidst its snowiest month on record, necn's political reporter Alison King got an inside look at snow removal efforts in the city from Mayor Marty Walsh.

"We still have work to do. We have to widen the streets in a lot of places," Mayor Walsh began.

With more than six feet of snow blanketing Boston streets, Mayor Walsh says he spends time each day driving through the neighborhoods and assessing road conditions. He said he was struggling with a date to lift the parking ban.

"As I came from Dorchester over from Roslindale, some of the streets were great and you can see the width of them opened up and some of the streets aren't so great," Mayor Walsh said.

Mayor Walsh ultimately chose to lift the parking ban Wednesday at 6 p.m., but he knows it will take more time to clear the snow.

In addition, Mayor Walsh has been looking to support local businesses- many of which have had their incomes severed as snow has made it difficult to navigate the city.

The mayor is also dealing with potholes, a severely challenged MBTA system, buried cars and multiple school closings. King asked Mayor Walsh if he believes these concerns will impact his legacy.

"I don't think it will have a long-term effect on me," Mayor Walsh explained. "Nobody has had to deal with this."

However, Mayor Walsh said he is proud of the work crews around Boston have done to make the city safe.

"I'm very defensive of the work that the DPW and Boston Fire, Boston Police, Transportation, EMS, because I know they're working as hard as they can to do the best they can," Mayor Walsh said.
