More than 100 gallons of gasoline spilled late Tuesday afternoon at a homeless shelter in Boston's South End.
Around 400 people were evacuated from inside the shelter on Southhampton Street, according to fire officials, who responded around 4:20 p.m.
"We evacuated the building, we found them shelter for the night, other than this place," said John Walsh, chief of operations for the Boston Fire Department. "We're taking all readings from the buildings, making sure it's safe."
The fuel spilled from a truck that was carrying about 2,500 gallons, fire officials said. By around 7 p.m., the spill was contained.
Police closed roads in the area of 112 Southhampton St. Atkinson Street, which abuts Southhampton, was also shut down.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The cause of the spill remains under investigation.
