12 Sent to Hospital After Crash in Stratford

Twelve people were sent to the hospital after two mini vans collided in Stratford Saturday afternoon and police said Monday that several of them have been released from the hospital.

Police said over the weekend that many of the injuries are severe and approximately six to eight of those injured are juveniles.

The incident occurred on Main Street near the Main Street Putney neighborhood around noon.

When police arrived, they saw 13 people between two cars. Three of those 13 people had to be extricated by firefighters.

The 12 injured were transported to St. Vincent's and Bridgeport Hospitals. Some remain under medical care for injuries.  

One firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital for heat-related injuries, according to police.

The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

Police are investigating.
