17 Events Worth Checking Out in September

Con: Summer is waning. Pro: September has the best weather of the year! Whether you’re heading back to college, wrapping up your last trip of the season, or mentally preparing for your first full week of work in some time, there’s some great stuff to look forward to in September. King Richard’s Faire

September 2 through October 22 — 10:30 a.m. — 235 Main Street, Carver — Desperate for a fix to sate your “Game of Thrones “withdrawal? The New England Renaissance Festival’s 36th Season will feature hundreds of entertainers, more than 100 artisans, knights battling on horseback, giant spit-roasted turkey legs, and, hopefully, no ice dragons. $32 for adults, $16 for children.

La Casa de Pedro Labor Day Weekend Pig Roast

September 3 and 4 — 11:30 a.m. — 505 Congress Street — A party so delicious you’ve got two chances to go. Celebrate the Labor Day Weekend in the Seaport with the crew from La Casa de Pedro while enjoying live music, craft cocktails, and freshly roasted pork dishes. Free.

Tailgate Throwdown

September 7 — 6 p.m. — The Harp, 85 Causeway Street — After staging the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all time — 28-3, remember that — the Patriots start their 2017 season in Foxborough against the Kansas City Chiefs. If you don’t have tickets to the game, you can still tailgate over at The Harp. Some of your favorite restaurants will be serving up their best football fare, and one Tailgate Champion will be crowned. The competition will end before the game kicks off but stick around for the game and a few more Bud Lights. $15.

roofTOP Chefs September Event

September 12 — 5:30 p.m. — Roof Top Pool at The Colonnade Hotel — roofTOP Chefs is a series created by The Colonnade Hotel’s Executive Chef Nick Calias, who has invited some talented friends to collaborate on a poolside tasting pop-up with 100% of proceeds benefitting Share Our Strength | No Kid Hungry. Each guest chef will whip up dishes of their own creation and Chef Calias will craft a complimentary dish or cocktail to pair, for a casual cookout-style atmosphere at the Colonnade’s famous rooftop pool. Private Chef Jen Royle and author (“Dare to Taste”) will be the featured chef on September 12. $30.

Underground GetDown Opening Day Block Party & Celebration

September 9 — 2 p.m. — 90 Traveler Street — The folks behind the Ink Block development have transformed the space under I-93 between South Boston and the South End, and you’re invited to the unveiling of new murals by some of today’s most popular and influential street-artists. While there, grab a drink at the Loco Beer Garden and a bite at the food trucks all while DJ’s Gucci Vuitton & Braun Dapper work the 1’s and 2’s. Free.

CREATE: Fall 2017

September 10 — 2 p.m. — The Innovation and Design Building, 21 Drydock Ave — One of the most unique events in Boston, CREATE pairs up-and-coming artists with the next wave of the city’s top chefs and bartenders, showcasing the city’s homegrown talents amid a soundtrack of live music. This Fall, the event returns to the Innovation and Design Building for an afternoon of creativity, art, and most importantly, food. The day’s lineup of artists, chefs, bartenders, and DJ’s/musicians does not disappoint. $55.

Let’s Dance Boston!

September 13 through 17 — 3 p.m. — Dewey Square Parks, 600 Atlantic Avenue — Do you watch “Dancing with the Stars” and think “hey, I could do that!” If so, put on your literal dancing shoes and head to the Rose Kennedy Greenway for the return of Let’s Dance Boston! First appearing on the Greenway in 2015, the event series features four consecutive nights of dynamic live music and dance along with a special Sunday afternoon event. The five-day dance series includes five different live bands preceded by expert dance instructors. Each event begins with a 45-minute free dance lesson taught by professional teachers in the dance style of the evening. After the lesson, a live band performs a 90-minute set to accompany the dancing and continue the party. Free.

#BEERSMART: Thursday Blind Tastings

September 14 — 6 p.m. — Craft Beer Cellar Belmont, 51 Leonard Street — Craft Beer Cellar Belmont wants to hone your knowledge of beer styles beyond “IPA” and “not an IPA.” CBC’s Thursday classes cover major style categories and even throw some curveballs in. In each class, you’ll learn about style attributes and how you can identify them through appearance, aroma, and flavor. Registration for these classes is limited to 8 per session. The September 14 class is called “Barkeep: What’s in my beer?” Free.

Summer ‘17 Hip Hop Hits Flow — Yoga Around Town

September 14 — 6:30 p.m. — Residence Inn by Marriott Boston Harbor on Tudor Wharf — The pier at Residence Inn Boston Harbor on Tudor Wharf will be packed with yogis. Head over to Charlestown for an all-levels vinyasa flow class that will have you moving, breathing and working up a sweat for 60 minutes. Post-#fitness, you will be plied with sweetgreen and KEEL vodka. $20.

Daybreaker Boston — Heart of the City

September 16 — 7 a.m. — City Hall Plaza — The premier morning rave company (yes, this is legitimate) sets up shop on Mayor Walsh’s doorstep. For $20 you can take vinyasa yoga class with Izzy Vanhall from Yogaworks at 7 a.m. and stay for the dance party. Or if you’re just into dancing and sweating before work, show up at 8 a.m for free. Wear your craziest threads and get down to the DJ stylings of Burgundy Jones. $20.

Boston Harbor Islands Regatta After-Party

September 16 — 6 p.m. — District Hall — The 13th Annual Boston Harbor Islands Regatta will have to close to 100 boats weaving through Boston Harbor and the harbor islands, but the action doesn’t end at the finish line. District Hall in the Seaport is hosting the official an after-party featuring craft cocktails, local beers, and gourmet bites while celebrating race participants. Tickets include one drink ticket, food, and live music. $40.

Stone Zoo Ales & Tails

September 16 — 5 p.m. — 149 Pond Street, Stoneham — Stone Zoo’s third annual beer-tasting event will feature offerings from breweries like Castle Island Brewing, Smuttynose Brewing Company, Clown Shoes Beer, and opportunities to learn about the amazing animals at the zoo. VIP ticket holders will receive an Ales & Tails t-shirt, access to the new Animal Discovery Center, special animal encounters and food provided by Joe’s American Bar & Grill of Woburn. Proceeds from Ales & Tails will support the operation and continued growth of Zoo New England. $55 for General Admission, $100 for VIP.

Halfway To Saint Patrick’s Day Irish Brunch Banger

September 17 — 10:30 a.m. — Lansdowne Pub, 9 Lansdowne Street — Let’s start with some real talk: generally speaking, “Halfway to _________” parties are always a stretch and probably don’t need to exist. That being said, I’m never going to knock an opportunity to throw back a few daytime Guinness. This September 17 banger is sponsored by Jameson and will feature live music, an authentic Irish breakfast, an iced irish coffee bar, and a lot of giveaways. Free.

Live @ Aloft: Almost Owen

September 21 — 8 p.m. — 401-403 D Street — The Live @ Aloft music series showcases the latest and greatest up-and-comers of the Boston music scene, and it’s a great take if you haven’t been. The September 21 installment will feature songwriter/producer and Boston native Almost Owen, who has been quietly waiting for his moment. Since moving back to the US from India where he worked as music teacher three years ago, the 26-year-old has played nearly 500 shows. He’s toured massive music festivals in Panama, clubs and theaters in China and India, intimate sets at UNESCO in France, and tiny beer-soaked clubs here in Boston. Free.

Copenhagen Beer Festival

September 22 and 23 — 5 p.m. — City Hall Plaza — The much-hyped Copenhagen Beer Festival moves from City Hall Plaza to the SoWa Power Station with 40+ beers from around the world and live music from Hayley Thompson-King, These Wild Plains, The Tremolo Beer Gut, and Tigerman WOAH. There are three sessions, one on Friday night and two on Saturday. Don’t make any plans for Sunday. $65 and up.

Top Shelf Cookies Pop-up

September 29 — 5 p.m. — Bone Up Brewing Company — Have you tried Top Chef Cookies? They often have a booth at the SoWa Open Market and their wares are absolutely delicious. Do you like beer? Of course you do. Top Shelf is posting up in the Fermentation District with classic and beer-infused treats. I imagine they pair nicely with an IPA or stout? Free.

Brewery Yoga with Erin Madore

September 30 — 10:15 a.m. — Dorchester Brewing Company — Have you noticed that most of the fitness events I post also involve alcohol? Join Erin Madore for a 60-minute vinyasa style yoga class (all levels) and later toast your physical fitness with tasting flights of delicious Dorchester Brewing Company beer. After the official activities, stick around for a pint or two. Bring your own snacks! $20.
