2 Dead in Domestic Homicide, Officer-Involved Shooting

Two people are confirmed dead following a domestic homicide incident and officer-involved shooting in North Weymouth, Massachusetts, according to police.

A Massachusetts man who had small roles in several Mark Wahlberg films was fatally shot by police who responded to a home where the man's mother was found dead of stab wounds, police said.

Massachusetts State Police say the incident happened around 1 a.m. Monday morning at 69 Prospect Hill Drive in North Weymouth. Police received a 911 call reporting a need for assistance. The nature of the call was not known, but it was believed to be medical.

Officials said officers arrived on scene and found a woman visible from the street on the front steps of the house. She was determined to be dead on the scene and had suffered from stab wounds.

The woman was identified as Patrica Campbell, 72, a resident of the home.

The officers responding to the scene encountered her son, Paul Campbell, 49, also a resident of the home, armed with one or more knives.

Police determined it to be necessary to discharge their weapons at him. He was transported to South Shore Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Campbell had small roles in the movies "Ted," "American Hustle" and "The Fighter," and also has ties to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. He was the father of the daughter of Walsh's girlfriend.

"This is an extremely personal situation and I ask that Lorrie and Lauren's privacy be respected at this time. This is an ongoing investigation and it is not my place to speculate on why or how this is," Walsh said in a statement.

Neighbors also say Paul Campbell, who was living with his mom, had his share of problems.

"I think in his heart he was a really nice person, and he tried to do the right thing and he was on drugs," said one woman, who did not want to be identified. "He would come over to our house, we live right up the road, we knew him from Southie and the drugs got the best of him."

Police say the home is not one known to police and that the home has been visited three times in five years, all for medical purposes.
