2 Rhode Island Correctional Officers OK after Fentanyl Exposure

A union official says two correctional officers in Rhode Island were hospitalized after they were exposed to fentanyl while on duty.

Rich Ferruccio, president of the Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, says the Adult Correctional Institution officers had been investigating a substance found at the facility Friday when they were exposed to the white powder.

The powder tested positive for the powerful synthetic opioid.

Ferruccio says the officers were sent to Rhode Island Hospital and given the overdose reversal drug Narcan. They were released from the hospital and are expected to be OK.
