2 Suspects Break Into Worcester Apartment, Steal Money Intended for Dog's Surgery

Surveillance video shows two suspects rushing out of Melissa Horstman's apartment on Wigwam Hill Road in Worcester, Massachusetts.

It happened Thursday night around 10.

Horstman wasn’t home at the time, but she says burglars smashed the glass door at her back deck and stole her jewelry and about a thousand dollars in cash.

Horstman says that thousand dollars was going to go towards life-saving surgery for her dog, Prince.

“He can’t really stand on it. He can’t get up the back steps without me lifting his rear."

According to Horstman, 8-year-old Prince has bone cancer in his leg and needs surgery as soon as possible. Prince is a 90-pound Rottweiler and was home when burglars smashed the glass and broke into her home. But Prince was on so much pain medication that he couldn’t do anything.

“I turned the lights on and there was glass everywhere all over my dog, all over the floor, on his blanket, and he’s just laying there in glass because he can’t really move much."

Horstman is angry and very emotional as she now has to figure out what she can do for Prince whose condition is deteriorating as he waits for surgery on his leg.

Horstman says she's heartbroken.

"I’ve had him since he was eight weeks old," Horstman said through tears.

Surgery for Prince is estimated to cost anywhere from $2,500 to $3,000.

Police and Horstman are asking anyone with information to please contact Worcester police.

A GoFundMe page has been started for Prince's surgery.
