Two children were rescued early Friday morning and eight were hospitalized after a fire broke out at an apartment building in West Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Firefighters were called to The Village at Crafts Hill Apartments on Pine Tree Lane just before 2 a.m. when the fire alarm went off.
When firefighters arrived, two children had been rescued by a resident from an adjacent building. Police, who had arrived minutes before, helped evacuate residents of other apartment units.
Authorities said heavy fire was coming from the kitchen area of one unit but was quickly extinguished. That apartment unit suffered heavy damage while the remaining units suffered smoke damage.
A total of eight people were taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
