Babysitters Arrested After Putting Baby in Refrigerator

Two juvenile babysitters are facing charges after police said they put a baby they were watching in a refrigerator.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said the two girls were arrested Tuesday in Danvers, Massachusetts. They are charged with child endangerment and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

Their names are not being released because they are juveniles.

The incident reportedly occurred in Danvers on Monday. The girls are both from Swampscott.

"This past evening at approximately 9:30 p.m., Danvers officers were notified by Swampscott police about a potential situation," Danvers Police Chief Patrick Ambrose said.

Video posted to Snapchat shows the accused girls putting the baby in the refrigerator, closing the door and laughing as the baby's screams are heard through the refrigerator door. Moments later, they open the refrigerator and remove the baby.

It's not clear how long the baby was inside. The video was time stamped at 4:37 p.m.

The Department of Children and Families said it has received a report on the situation and is investigating in collaboration with law enforcement. The child is reportedly doing well and is at home with family.
