20+ Events Happening This Weekend in the Boston Area

It’s starting to feel like fall out there, just in time for the weekend. We’ve gathered two dozen great events for the entire family from a Sunflower Festival to Riverfest 2018, First Friday fun and a whole lot more!

Friday, Sept. 7 

Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series

Join the Boston Public Health Commission, Boston Parks and Recreation Dept. and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts as they kick off the summer of 30 free outdoor fitness classes each week in and around the city. These free classes take place throughout Boston’s 18 neighborhoods and two dozen parks all summer long. Today try Bootcamp at 6:30 a.m. at Christopher Columbus Park in the North End or a walking group at 10 a.m. at Moakley Park in South Boston.

Harpoon Brewery Tours

Guided tours take place daily at Harpoon Brewery, giving visitors an up close and personal view of the brewing process. As part of the tour, visitors 21 and over will enjoy a range of freshly-brewed Harpoon and UFO beers. Tours last approximately one hour. Tickets are $5 and only available the day of the tour and can only be purchased in person. Noon to 6 p.m., Harpoon Brewery, 306 Northern Ave., Boston.

ICA First Friday: “Summer Nights”

Head on over to the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston’s First Friday event. Tonight celebrate what’s left of summer with beachy beats, a sunset dance party and more. Free for members, $20 for non-members, 5-10 p.m., Institute of Contemporary Art, 25 Harbor Shore Drive, Boston.

SoWa First Fridays

Meet artists, view exhibits and shop as more than 200 artists, galleries, shops and showrooms open their doors to the public tonight for an evening of art, culture and inspiration. 5-9 p.m., 450-460 Harrison Ave., Boston.

Museum of Fine Arts First Fridays

Join the folks at the Museum of Fine Arts tonight and kick off the weekend with fine art, music, signature cocktails, tapas and more. Tickets are $25, seniors and students are $23 and free for members. 6-9:30 p.m., Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave., Boston.

Mayor Walsh’s Movie Night: “Black Panther”

Grab your chair or blanket and catch a free outdoor movie tonight with Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s Movie Nights, part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Dept.’s ParkARTS program which features popular films under the night sky in 12 of the city’s parks throughout August and September. Tonight catch “Black Panther” at dusk (approximately 7:45 p.m.). Free popcorn will be provided by AMC Loews Theatres. Frog Pond, Boston Common. 

Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse

Combining music, technology and comedy, Blue Man Group creates a form of entertainment that can’t be defined, but appeals to people of all ages. Described as “innovative,” “energetic” and “wildly entertaining,” the best way to truly understand what Blue Man Group is, is to see the show yourself. Southie Saturday at The Lawn on D

Enjoy lawn games, food, drinks, entertainment and more at The Lawn on D all day long today. 7 a.m to 11 p.m. Live music from Crunchy Monkey from 3-6 p.m. and a DJ party from 7-10 p.m., The Lawn on D, 420 D St., Boston.

Kids in the Kitchen: Sushi

Children ages 6-12 can explore and taste the food of the season at Boston Public Markets Kids in the Kitchen series. Today they’ll learn how to create veggie sushi from scratch with guest chef Molly. 10 a.m.,

Grab the family and head to New Hampshire for Tendercrop Farm’s Second Annual Sunflower Festival. Enjoy live music, food vendors and more. $20, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., 123 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH. Greenway Open Market
