Steady Rain Overnight, Chance of Thunderstorm

A warm front crosses New England Friday with plenty of clouds and a few patches of fog and drizzle.

The major blizzard in the middle of the nation has weakened dramatically and is now lifting into Canada. A warm front shooting off to the east of it is crossing New England Friday with a lot of clouds, perhaps some fog and drizzle from Connecticut to Cape Cod in the afternoon.

There’s not a lot of sunshine, but it’s not a bad day with a high temperature in the 40s near the beach 50s inland.

Any steady rain holds off until after dark. We'll have a line of showers and perhaps a thunderstorm crossing from west to east Friday night. Rainfall of less than a quarter inch expected, except along the south coast where rain lingers early Saturday, maybe closer to one half inch.

Temperatures Friday night will hold in the 40s, 30s north.

We start off the weekend with clouds but will have increasing sunshine from north to south Saturday afternoon. The exception could be in the mountains and along the south coast, where the front slows down and stalls. Showers may continue in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.

Where the sun does come out and the breeze is from the southwest, we should have temperatures in the 70s. Cooler far north, and along the south coast. High pressure works and Saturday night, with partial clearing and low temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Sunday starts off bright and dry, but another storm gathering in the Gulf of Mexico will be racing in our direction. Clouds will increase during the afternoon with a chance of showers before the sun goes down. High temperature in the 50s and low 60s.

Heavy rain is possible Sunday night into early Monday, with a chance of a thunderstorm. Temperatures on Monday should make it into the 60s with some drying during the afternoon, especially southern and western New England. There may be enough rainfall and warm air in the mountains to cause significant snowmelt, with the possibility of rivers coming out of their banks.

For the marathon itself, it looks like the heaviest rain will be the first part of the day, then maybe even a sunny break with a high temperature close to 70 degrees. A few showers in the afternoon may contain some thunder.

Cooler and drier air works in slowly Tuesday, with a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures will be in the 50s north, to 60 degrees south.

The middle of next week looks fairly dry, but there could be another significant rainstorm with the threat for flooding late in the week. We're probably drying out for Easter weekend. Stay ahead of it with our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
