Police Identify 44-Year-Old Man Killed During Youth Turkey Hunt

Police say the victim had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene

A 44-year-old man was killed while participating in a youth turkey hunt on Saturday.

According to police in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, they responded to a report of a hunting incident in a wooded area on Monument Valley Road at about 12 p.m. Saturday.

The responding officers located the victim, identified Sunday as Christopher Puntin, of Pittsfield, at the scene.

Police say the victim had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man had been participating in a youth turkey hunt with two other adults and a juvenile.

His name is not being released at this time pending the notification of his next of kin.

No one else was injured, police said.

An initial investigation suggests the incident was an accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
