Five New England states have made a list of "worst states" to contract Lyme disease.
The website 24/7 Wall Street reviewed data by the Centers for Disease Control and found Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine were among the worst 14 states for confirmed Lyme disease cases.
The report showed that Maine had the most confirmed cases in the country with 86.4 cases for every 100,000 people in 2016.
According to the CDC, Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks.
Symptoms of Lyme disease include fever, headache, fatigue, and a skin rash, according to the CDC.
